What Might Stir Beyond Driochmor

ChatGPT Image May 2 2026 04 50 03 PMThere are few in Scotara who claim to know what lies within Driochmor. Even fewer who would speak of it with certainty. It has been set apart for years now, its boundary clear, its presence acknowledged but rarely explored in thought or conversation. What was once known has, in time, become something less certain—shaped as much by memory as by distance.

However, distance changes things. In the years since boundaries were drawn, those who remain outside it have had little reason to question what lies within. Life has continued. Seasons have turned. The land has been tended as it always has been.

Driochmor has simply… remained. But now, it is thought of more often. Not spoken of loudly. Not discussed at length. But present in the quiet spaces between conversation, in the moments when thought drifts where it once did not.

With that thought comes wondering. Some believe little has changed. That what was sent there remains as it was—contained, separate, no more a part of Scotara than the distant sea or the lands beyond it. Time passes, they say, but it does not alter what is already set. Others are less certain.

Time changes everything. It changes the land, shaping it through season and storm. It changes people, softening some, hardening others. And if magic was once something that could not be fully understood or contained… what might it become when left to itself?

There are those who do not see danger in that thought. They wonder instead if something of value may have been lost. If what was set aside may not have been as harmful as once believed. If, in removing it entirely, something essential to the land was left behind.

And then there are those who choose not to wonder at all. Who leave such thoughts where they belong—beyond the boundary, untouched and unspoken. To question it too closely feels like inviting something best left alone.

Across Scotara, no answer is agreed upon and no certainty offered. Only the quiet understanding that Driochmor is no longer as distant in thought as it once was. And that what lies within it… whatever it may be… has had years to remain unseen. Years to change.

Years to become something no one now can name.
