There’s something about the shift into autumn that always makes me slow down just a bit—like the season itself is inviting me to take a breath. The air feels a little crisper, the mornings a touch quieter, and the days lend themselves to more puttering than rushing.
I love a good putter. Straightening up the bookshelf, stirring a pot of soup, or simply wandering the garden to see what’s still hanging on before the frost claims it. It’s not about getting big things done, it’s about those small, satisfying moments that don’t ask much of us except to enjoy them.
This is also when I find myself tucking cozy little details into my stories. The smell of woodsmoke drifting from a hearth, the rustle of leaves under a Highlander’s boots, or a heroine finding comfort in a warm plaid against the chill. Autumn carries a kind of gentle magic, don’t you think?
I’d love to know what’s your favorite way to putter when autumn rolls around? Do you pull out the recipes that warm the kitchen, tackle a little project, or just curl up with a good book?
